Faculty Academic and Scientific Bodies


The Law Faculty operative bodies are the Academic Council, the Academic Promotions Council, the Scientific Council of the Centre for Legal and Social Research, and the Board of the Centre for Permanent Education.

The Academic Council comprises the entire body of the Faculty teaching staff employed on a full-time basis, including junior assistants who acquired this status as of the effective date of the Higher Education Act. Students' representatives are entitled to take part in the activities of the Academic Council and its operative bodies in discussing and deciding on the issues related to the quality of the teaching process, the reform of study programs, the analysis on the efficiency of studying, and the distribution of ECTS credits. The Academic Council is eligible to perform the following scope of activities: approve the proposal of the Faculty Statute; approve the curricula and syllabi proposals for all Faculty study programs at all levels of instruction, approve the proposal for the Faculty Financial Plan; approve the proposal of the Faculty Business Report and the Annual Account; approve the proposal of the Financial Investment Plan; approve the proposal of a decision on the tuition fee; approve the topics for master's and doctoral thesis; approve the public defence of doctoral dissertations; adopt general acts and operational rules for the organization and implementation of all Faculty study programs; decide on the apportion of teaching staff and assistants across the curriculum subjects in each academic year to meet the instruction and examination requirements; approve the relevant literature for instruction and examination purposes; foster the comprehensive development of Faculty activities and issue awards to the best students; adopt the plan and program for the Faculty scientific research activities and review the reports on the project results; give an opinion to the University on the number of students to be enrolled in the first year of study at all levels of instruction; and perform other duties in compliance with the Higher Education Act, the Faculty Statute and other general Faculty acts.

The Academic Promotions Council is a body which decides on proposals for the academic promotion of teaching staff and assistants into higher academic ranks. It comprises the teaching staff and assistants of a relevant academic rank.

The Scientific Council of the Center for Legal and Social Research comprises one representative (Chair) from each teaching unit. The body is eligible to perform the following activities: adopt the plan and program of the Centre's scientific and academic activities; propose the Faculty participation in publicly announced projects aimed at funding educational and scientific research activities; decide on the participation in public announcements for educational and scientific research activities; adopt the plan and program on the development of the junior academic and scientific staff; evaluate the results of scientific research projects; establish cooperation with other national, foreign and international institutions; adopt the report on the Center activities and submit it to the Academic Council on the annual basis at least; and perform other duties in compliance with the Faculty Statute including those the Center is entrusted to perform by other Faculty bodies.

The Board of the Center for Permanent Education includes five members of the academic staff. The body is eligible to perform the following activities: review and adopt different programs for professional education, development and training; organize educational teams for the implementation of the approved professional education, development and training programs (in addition to the Faculty teaching staff, the teams may include professors from other faculties in the country and abroad, as well as legal practioners and other experts as external associates); review programs and financial reports on the implementation of professional education, development and training programs; monitor and evaluate the quality of instruction in the professional education, development and training programs, and propose measures to improve and promote the quality of instruction; establish cooperation with other higher education institutions and individuals for the purpose of preparing and implementing joint professional education, development and training programs; and adopt the report on the Centre activities and submit it to the Academic Council on the annual basis at least.
