REPORT ON THE ERASMUS + TEACHING STAFF MOBILITY PROGRAM 2017/2018

 

In the period from 17- 21 September 2018, Gordana Ignjatović (ESP teacher/Legal English lecturer at the Law Faculty in Niš) participated in the EU-funded ERASMUS + KA107 Teaching Staff Mobility program, organized through institutional cooperation between the University of Niš (Serbia) and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The mobility program was carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Humanities at MRU, and it was primarily aimed at: exchanging good teaching practices and experiences in English for Specific Purposes (ESP); dissemination of knowledge on different aspects of ESP instruction, with particular focus on using digital technologies in classroom settings, developing professional competences in an intercultural teaching context and promoting further development of ESP teaching at local and national levels; creating links and networking opportunities for prospective professional cooperation and research; fostering life-long learning, innovation, modernization and internationalization of ESP programs at both receiving and sending institutions.

5. Meeting at the MRU Institute of Humanities with Erasmus+ program participants: Dean, Assoc. Prof. Liudmila Mockienė, Vice-Dean, Viktorija Mažeikienė; Danica Piršl and Gordana Ignjatović, University of Niš, Serbia

The ERASMUS + Teaching Staff Mobility program included 8 hours of teaching ESP-Legal English to three different groups of ESP students: ESP for Public Administration, ESP for Public Policy studies, and ESP for Philology and Translation studies.

The organisational framework of ERASMUS + International Teaching/Training Week: "Social Innovations Week at MRU" (17-21. 9. 2018) provided additional opportunity to participate in a large number of teaching, educational, social and cultural activities. It included visits and observation of classes given by Lithuanian teachers (ESP for Business and Customs Logistics, ESP for Psychology), lectures given by the visiting Canadian professor Esther Enns (Educational Linguistics, Experiential Learning) and other guest lecturers (Academic English, Academic Writing in ESP).

One of the highlights of this program was also the opportunity to visit the Equal Opportunities Ombudsman Office and learn more about the work performed by this institution. The social events provided a chance to meet visiting professors and researchers in the field of law, social policy, and communicology.

The ERASMUS + Teaching Staff Mobility program has been well-organized and fully supported by all relevant institutions and individual participants at the sending and receiving institutions alike. It has been a memorable and professionally and personally rewarding experience, which will contribute to improving the ESP instruction both at the Law Faculty in Niš and at the university level through the dissemination of knowledge and experience from this valuable program with other ESP colleagues.
